I find this offensive in a few ways.
Why would Darren being there take away a chance from the “real Starkid fans”? Assuming you’re referring to the original fans of Starkid before Darren’s role on Glee brought in a bunch of new fans, do you think these new fans will have an advantage over the older fans in terms of buying tickets? Do Glee fans have connections with Ticketmaster that I don’t know about? Everyone had a fair shot at getting a ticket to SPACE tour. There are now tons of people who want to see the Starkids. Even before many Glee fans became Stakid fans, there still wouldn’t have been a way for every Starkid fan to see them live.
And now the part that really pisses me off. If someone became a Starkid fan because of Darren, they are not a “real Starkid fan”? That is ridiculous, and frankly, insulting. Darren himself has stated numerous times that he loves all of his fans, regardless of where they discovered him. Because of their love for Darren, many Glee fans discovered and fell in love with the Starkid productions. I never knew about Starkid before Glee, but my friends and I quote the musicals, sing songs from all of them on a daily basis, have Red Vines parties, get excited when we hear about anything exciting happening for Joey or Lauren or Joe or Dylan or any of them. The way you stumble across a fandom does not determine how true of a fan you will become.
I think everyone should have a chance to see the Starkids live. Because of money and time, that is not possible, but I would never say that some fans deserve it more than others based on why they started watching the musicals.
To conclude, I demand of you: what would Zefron say at a time like this?
I didn’t make this, but I am assuming they meant the people who are buying tickets in NY just for any chance to see Darren, and who don’t give a shit about the rest of Team StarKid. Not people who legitimately love the whole group, and just got introduced to it through Darren being on Glee.
